TKAM Journal #9: Perspective of Heck Tate

I was just sitting down at the Sheriffs department because it was a slow night, not that many crimes started to happen after the court case that involved the Ewell's, Atticus and Tom Robinson. I was just listen to my radio, it was getting dark and i hear the phone ring, it was Atticus, He said it was an emergency and this time was different because he didn't take time to tell me details he just said get over here quick. Atticus never lies and the assesment on his voice it must have been urgent. I got over there as fast as I could but as when i was rounding the corner to Atticus's house there was someone laying by a tree with something on his chest I pulled out my flashlight and there was Bob Ewell laying there in a small pool of his own blood, by the time i went over there I consented to myself that Bob Ewell was dead and what was wierd was that the kife look like a kitchen knife. I was distracted by this inconvienence, it was wierd it look like he fell on his own knife, there was his body and a small pile of misplaced soil next tto his body there was a root next to his foot that seam broken and it all made sense he had a knife and he tripped and fell on it. I then remembered what Atticus so I hopped back in my car and went straight down the road.
I went and knocked on th door Atticus opened i and Alexandra look worried I guess the situation had tot do with Bob Ewell, Atticus lead me to Jem's room and there was Jem laying unconcouis in his bed with his arm broken, allegedy done by Bob Ewell I thought the first time I saw him. Atticus first wanted to get comfortable, I noticed a countryman who was at the corner, Atticus came back and settled down he told me all about and i wanted to get the story becausei found many things that were strange at the scene where Bob Ewell was dead, the man who had once had a black man persecuted now lays dead. I wanted the story from Scout to make sure the crime was how I guessed. I figuered that Scout's costume from the pageant saved her life from Bob Ewel because he couldn't get a good grip on her with out getting hurt and the knife was used to attempt to hurt Scout but never got through her costume. I asked Atticus how come he didn't hear anything when Scout was screaming but he felt ashamed that he was listening to the radio. I wondered if any of the neighbors heard but Atticus said they usually all listen to their radio at this time of night. We went on out to the porch but just before then we found out the country man was none other thean Aurthor Radley. I was trying to convince Atticus that his son didn't kill Bob but he wouldn't reason till I yelled and woke up the neighboorhood. He finally said we shjould deal with this in the morning so we left it at that and by then they had Bob Ewell in a body bag.
